parhelion (sun dog)
A parhelion, or sundog, is an atmospheric phenomenon that makes the sun look like it has a halo with four points. It occurs due to ice crystals in the sky, and can be seen close to the horizon.
For Soleil, this elemental allows her to become a sundog. When activated, she erupts into the sky, and hangs in the air while her energy and light becomes the shape of a sundog. Her body sits in the very middle. If others try to walk towards her, they'll find that they're never able to actually reach her. She permanently sits on the horizon in relation to others. In this state she can only communicate through the pulses of light emanating from her body.
Others will find that if they look directly at her for too long, they'll begin to go blind. This doesn't seem to be a problem for eyeless esk who can still see through other means.
While inactive, the elemental looks like light pulsing around her regular body.

Soleil is benevolent and kind. She spends her time helping the animals, esks, and humans in her boundary, but usually from a distance. She has a few close friends, and doesn't like large crowds. She prefers quiet places in the Conservatory, similar to the peaceful atmosphere of her tundra. She enjoys her calm and reserved lifestyle.
To most, she is a fleeting, bright light that seems to disappear quickly from their lives. To a select few, she is a loyal friend with a warm heart. She rarely depicts strong emotions in front of others, but she doesn't hold back when it comes to her thoughts on global warming, and her disdain for polluting humans. |

Soleil began life as a snowshoe hare. She was chased across the tundra by a wolf and wasn't able to find her way back home. Marmalade* came across her as she collapsed, and transformed her. He waited for a long time as she slowly stirred to consciousness.
Immediately upon awaking, she engaged the parhelion elemental, seemingly gifted to her through Marmalade's own parhelion enchantment. She hung in the air, unreachable, and watched as Marmalade tried to walk towards her. But her elemental keeps her at a great distance, never allowing others to actually reach her. Eventually, Marmalade decided to give Soleil the time and space she needed to be on her own, and he began to walk away. Soleil eventually came down from the sky, and began to explore the area. She met other esks, who helped her figure out her new abilities and identity. While demonstrating her sundog abilities, she saw Marmalade reappear on the tundra. |
She didn't know who or what he was, but she knew she wanted to meet him. They reunited and Marmalade introduced himself, and dubbed Soleil "the little sundog." He helped explain how her enchantment works, and helped her figure out how to speak with the animals.
Eventually, she found her place in the world as a guardian of animals on the tundra. She leaves food out for them, and helps warm them when they get too cold. Her sanctuary enchantment gives them strength for the long crossing, and fuels their spirits.

Marmalade • creator; friend
Soleil was wary of Marmalade at first, the way she was wary of everyone and everything. Once she let her guard down and came to meet him though, she immediately felt comforted. He helped teach her about the world, and gave her the tools to become independent and confident in her new life as an esk. Aleriya • Soleil created her; best friends Soleil created Aleriya out of frustration towards climate change. Thus, Aleriya was born fierce and raging. Normally, those traits would stress Soleil out, but she and Aleriya have always been on a similar wave length, and they understand each other perfectly. They are often seen dancing together in fits of snowy turbulence over the cold peaks. |

Ivy finds Soleil fascinating. Soleil is a little aloof, and odd, which matches Ivy's demeanor perfectly.
