design notes:
esk species notes:
- her antlers are made of ice
- her eyes are blue like the ice
- her frost elemental coats parts of her fur, and creates the frost flowers around her head. She's never seen without the frost, but the flowers are optional to depict
- her aurora elemental is also always visible, at least a little (even in the daytime)
- her ice elemental is usually depicted as ice shards coming off the glacier on her back
- she has a little string by her antler that holds her blue chalcedony crystal (not symmetrical)
- she has a full-body size shift mutation (size chart is not updated)
esk species notes:
- she has no mouth, nose, or pupils (just solid colored eyes)
- she cannot close her eyes (though esk can squint)
- she has three toes on each foot
polar bay boundary
Aleriya's boundary is in a bay in the Kalaallit Nunaat High Arctic Tundra in Greenland.

elementals
frost and ice (two separate elementals that she uses together)
Aleriya whirls frost and ice around her constantly. She funnels her fury and passion into her elementals, and uses them to refreeze parts of the polar biome that have become warm from climate change. She takes this task seriously, and it drives all of her motivations.
After falling in love with Zenzee her frost elemental began to also manifest as frost flowers. The flowers represent that a small part of her has softened.
aurora
Aleriya spent a lot of time shadowing Aevre to discover her techniques to protecting the polar biome. Aleriya never had the intention of becoming an aurora elemental, and simply wanted to learn from Aevre and join her on her mission. But overtime the lights became so comforting to Aleriya that they became a part of her, too. Aevre saw the connection and let her elemental flow into Aleriya. Now, she always has at least a wisp of them around her, though like Aevre she feels that they're very private, and rarely talks about it. That said, she feels an immediate connection to other esks with this elemental.

Blessing
rubbish return (marine biome)
Makoa understood Aleriya's need to seek revenge on humans for their destruction of the environment. He used this knowledge to give Aleriya a blessing that would help aid her retaliation. While Aleriya is in the marine biome ocean trash seems to find its way to the nearest humans, whether they're on beaches, boats or just swimming.

Aleriya is the embodiment of wild, unbound anarchy. She flies across snowy mountain peaks whirling her frost and ice elementals out in all directions. She keeps to the skies almost all the time. She was born from Soleil's rage at climate change, and this still drives her motivations. She is on a mission to keep the polar biome alive, and she funnels her anger into her elementals. She feels a kindness towards other polar biome esks, and a few close friends. She tentatively joined Zenzee's effort to connect healers from across the biomes. Zenzee appreciates her ability to restore the land. |
After spending time together she and Zenzee began to fall in love. Zenzee loves Aleriya's boldness and unpredictability. They can be seen spinning and dancing together in the sky high above the mountain peaks. Zenzee softened Aleriya just a bit and now Aleriya's frost elemental manifests frost flowers.
Aleriya's compassion can extend to esks and animals, but not humans. She hates all of them, along with the developed biome, and X. She is incredibly wary of developed biome esks, and esks transformed from humans. She cannot separate what humans have done to the planet from their individual identities. Part of her wishes to transform humans out of spite, to force them to be tied to their mistakes forever.

Aleriya's creator, Soleil sat at the edge of her boundary overlooking the bay as her rage grew. She was furious to see another chunk of glacier crack off and form an iceberg. It was disheartening and maddening to see global warming continuously harm her home. Bitter rage tore through her and her emotions morphed into energy that transformed a pinnacle iceberg out in the water.
Soleil screamed as Aleriya ripped up through the air, causing snow and ice to shoot out in all directions. The sudden presence of this giant esk startled Soleil enough to calm her down, and she watched in awe as the new esk spiraled above her. |
Soleil burst forth in her elemental form and hung in the air as a sundog opposite Aleriya's fierce whirling. The bright light caught Aleriya's attention and the two stared at each other in silence. They sat like this in the air for minutes before both making their way down to the ground. Aleriya sounded like she was panting, and Soleil was wide eyed at her creation.
Aleriya was confused, and felt angry but she wasn't sure why. Soleil helped calm her down, and explained what it meant to be an esk. It upset Soleil to have to explain climate change to a brand new esk. She wished she could have given Aleriya a chance at blissful ignorance before delving into such heavy topics. Aleriya listened with intensity, and nodded with understanding. She was brand new to the world, but seemed to know what Soleil was going to say before she said it. Aleriya looked off in the distance and saw an oil tanker on the water. Soleil's rage ran through her and she flew out towards it. She froze the ship, stopping it from completing its duties. Humans screamed and ran for the life boats, unsure of what was going on as every part of the ship began to freeze in an unnatural, sudden way. They evacuated, leaving the ship on the water.

Aleriya was created with a profound sense of the world around her. She felt like she could hear the glacial ice speaking to her, whispering stories from eons ago. Her rage at the humans' devastation was core to her existence Aleriya and Soleil felt like they had a lot to discuss. Soleil realized it had been a long time since she'd spoken to anyone other than her friend, Ivy. It felt revitalizing to meet this new esk with passions so aligned with her own. She introduced Aleriya to Ivy, and the three became close. Over time, Aleriya learned to hone her anger, and funnel it into her elemental. Her frost can ice over giant paths of ground, and freeze water instantly. Eventually, Aleriya also met Zenzee, and learned about Zenzee's quest to bring healers from every biome together. She wanted Aleriya to be a part of her network, but Aleriya declined saying she "wasn't that kind of healer." Zenzee fought with her, and said she was actively healing the earth by keeping the polar biome cold. Zenzee pointed out that just because Aleriya is wild and fierce, instead of kind and gentle, didn't mean she wasn't a healer. This softened something in Aleriya, and she joined Zenzee's effort. Zenzee began making excuses to see her more often, and soon the two found themselves in love. |
Aleriya can be seen flying high across snow capped peaks, whirling frost in all directions in her fierce, angry dance. Occasionally Zenzee can be seen whirling around her, or a sundog might appear on the horizon behind her.
Soleil • Aleriya's creator, friend
Aleriya was born from Soleil's anger and rage at glacial loss. Because of this, they share similar motivations, though Aleriya is much more fierce and bold than Soleil. Soleil is quiet and tiny, she likes helping the biome in small ways, aiding animals across the tundra. Aleriya prefers flying high above and creating storms of frost. They respect and love each others' differences.
Zenzee • romantic partner
Zenzee convinced Aleriya to join her collective of healers from all biomes. Aleriya was hesitant at first, she didn't think of herself as very nurturing, but Zenzee helped her see herself from a different perspective. Aleriya and Zenzee kept finding excuses to see each other, and eventually they fell in love. They can be seen twirling around high in the sky, dancing and darting through the air together.
Aevre • mentor
Aleriya was inspired by Aevre, and liked flying nearby while Aevre worked. They didn't talk much, but they were aware of each other, and appreciated each other's efforts to keep the polar biome thriving. Over time Aleriya spent more time shadowing her. Aleriya never had the intention of becoming an aurora elemental, and simply wanted to learn from Aevre and join her on her mission. Eventually the aurora lights became so comforting to Aleriya that they became a part of her, too. Aevre saw the connection and let her elemental flow into Aleriya. Now, Aevre is one of the few esk that Aleriya feels fully comfortable around, and she brings Aleriya peace.
Nemmi • Aleriya created her; close friend
Aleriya created Nemmi and they love each other, but they can stress each other out. Aleriya was suspicious of Nemmi at first, and that hurt her feelings. Since then, the two have repaired their rocky relationship. Aleriya likes teaching Nemmi about the world, and Nemmi likes to listen. As Nemmi grows though she's often the one sharing new things with her creator instead.
Ivy • close friend
Ivy is one of the few esks that Aleriya considers a close friend. She trusts Ivy because they met her through Soleil. Otherwise, she might not have become friends with an esk who used to be a human. Aleriya feels comfortable around her, and can let her guard down when they're together. Ivy understands Aleriya, and appreciates her work for the biome. Ivy even thinks Aleriya can be kind of goofy sometimes, but no other esks seem to think so.
Enkira • friend; a little tense
Enki and Aleriya met through Zenzee. At first Aleriya was cold and bitter to her, but as Aleriya warmed up to Zenzee she warmed up to Enki as well. Aleriya and Enki are almost too similar, like repelling magnets. Now they are closer, both have softened over time, but there is still some tension. Aleriya wonders if Enki is jealous of her relationship with Zenzee. This isn't quite true, but deep down Enki does feel a bit of jealousy over watching someone so similar to herself have a healthy, stable relationship.
Ever • friend
Aleriya and Ever met through Zenzee. Aleriya respects Ever's dedication to the forest biome. Aleriya is impressed by her, though she doesn't always know how to show it. They became closer through the marine biome event.
Oasis • friend
Aleriya met Oasis through Zenzee since Zenzee is her mentor. Aleriya feels a maternal instinct over Oasis in the same way that Zenzee does, though she doesn't really teach Oasis anything. She just offers support where she can, and she likes to see Oasis grow. They became closer through the marine biome event.
X • enemy
Aleriya has never met X, but she hates them. She despises the developed biome, and humans in general.

So far Aleriya has only done one transformation. She felt an obligation to a small, lost creature and made the hard choice. She's loosely interested in performing transformations again. Part of her wishes to transform humans out of spite, so that they'll be eternally tied to the earth, and the climate change mistakes they've made. Part of her knows this might be harmful in the long run, so she tries to reign in that impulse.

- Nemmi's 6th origin prompt, her purpose: clarity in chaos - Aleriya and Nemmi follow the sound of a loud bang to find an unknown esk, Abraxas, destroying a building. They discover the building's evil purpose, and Aleriya explodes it. Nemmi handles the chaos well and finds that she excels in high stress situations.
- Nemmi's burrow: written by Rejamrejam - Aleriya challenges Nemmi to improve her burrowing skills outside of the polar biome. Nemmi travels to other terrains and becomes adept at building burrows anywhere, not just in the snow with the help of her elemental. While traveling she learns to interact without her enchantment too, and meets an ominous esk that she can't read.
