blackwater river delta boundary
Enkira was transformed in the blackwater swamps of southern Mexico in approximately 1000 AD. Today her boundary has become the Pantanos de Centla Biosphere Reserve.

elemental
molten gold
This elemental is as much a part of Enki's identity as any other part of her body. In fact, she uses the gold to create a fish tail for herself. She uses her gold constantly, wether as a weapon to scare off others, or just creating shapes and figures in the air for fun. Her koi fish are also all made of gold. onshore wind Enki uses this elemental to blow wind from her river onto the shores. This is partially to intimidate esks and humans she doesn't feel are worthy of boundary. She also just appreciates having a breeze flowing around while the elemental is less active. |
enchantment
deity's blessings
This blessing can have different outcomes depending on the way Enki uses it. If she decides an esk, human or animal is worthy of her blessing, she will let her enchantment reach them. Sometimes, this means an animal might find food, or a human might have more luck than usual. Sometimes it means an esk might feel strengthened in some way. The blessings are small, but can have large impacts.

familiars
koi (small swarm)
Enki's fish move with her in tandem, and seem to flow like a part of her body. She truly sees them as a manifestation of her own soul.

Enkira considers herself the goddess of the blackwater, and freshwater biome. She sees her creator, Seventh, as a holy being who gifted her life and divinity. She is a benevolent and fair ruler. She fiercely defends the environment, and those that can't protect themselves.
She uses her blessing enchantment to help those she finds worthy. She will turn her molten gold into a weapon to fight, or scare off, those with malicious intentions. Usually, this refers to humans. For a thousand years Enki ruled with few friends, but many loyal subjects. Myths and stories built up around her, but she felt lonely. She began to really trust those around her after a journey of self discovery. Now, she lets her friends see her true emotions. Her land and subjects have benefited from this emotional maturity as well. She still guards her true name closely though, and requests strangers use her formal titles. |
❖ ❖ ❖
She was an idol of a goddess whose name has long been lost in the Blackwater.
As an object of worship all her existence, she has a deep-rooted sense of righteousness
as well as a hefty dose of godly narcissism. She treats all her followers, esk and living creature alike,
with great care and bestows those who have proven themselves with many blessings.
To those who show her disrespect or hope to use her powers for selfish gain, however,
her judgement swift is and absolute. Many a thief and wicked lord
have entered the Blackwater, never to be seen again.

note: I did a lot of research on Mayan gods, Ixchel and Buluc Chabtan specifically, for Enki's story. That said, there aren't a ton of primary sources on the topics, but I mostly referenced the Mayan Codices. If any of the information is wrong, or there's something problematic about the way I've depicted the Mayan culture please let me know! I'm always looking to expand my knowledge and be as respectful as possible towards cultures I'm not from.

Enki was transformed in the Pantanos de Centla, in southern Mexico, in approximately 1000 AD. She believes her transformation was a divine miracle by Seventh. She views Seventh as a God figure similar to herself, and believes it has knowledge no other esk can understand. She sees herself as a protector and ruler of the Freshwater Biome, acting on Seventh's unsaid orders. She rules fairly and justly, though her god-complex can impede her relationship to others.
Enki sees her name as incredibly sacred, and private. She only allows others to refer to her by her titles, unless she has decided she can completely trust them. Though she is devoutly loyal to these select few friends and confidants who break through her haughty exterior. A thousand years passed as she ruled the wetlands, and she fell into a routine. She had a hard time building friendships and connecting, since she considered herself above everyone else. She began to do some self reflecting, and decided she wanted to know which god or goddess was depicted in her original form golden idol. A vision from Seventh helped her, and she begrudging asked other esks for help. She thought her idol was of Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of birth and midwifery. To her surprise, she discovered that her idol was actually of the Mayan god of war and violence, Buluc Chabtan. |
This sent her into an identity crisis. She still felt a connection to Ixchel, and couldn't understand this reality. Her friend Zenzee helped her come to terms with her new identity, and Enki began to pull herself back together. She later found out that she could've learned this information long ago if she'd been more willing to trust her friends sooner.
Enki is now comfortable with her connections to both Mayan gods, and has found stability. Her self discovery has made her more amicable, and a little more down to earth. She focuses more on mutual relationships with other esks, as opposed to trying to rule over them.

note: Enkira only tells her true name to those that she trusts. Otherwise she requires them to use her formal titles. Everyone on this list is someone she deeply trusts, so they can use her true name.
Seventh • Enki's creator; she treats it like a god, and is devoted it
Enki thinks that her creation was a divine blessing from Seventh. She knows that Seventh rarely transforms objects, and could've just as easily moved around her instead of transforming her. She believes that Seventh can read the vibrations of the earth better than anyone. She sees it as a god, and the most powerful esk. If she comes across it, she'll stay near it as long as she can stand, always willing to endure its harsh nature. She loves Seventh, and all of her actions are devoted to it. |
Matma Ta (Matty) • Enki's oldest, and most trusted friend
Matty was the first esk Enki ever talked to, and the first esk she could call a friend. Enki told Matty her true name, and in turn Matty felt comfortable enough to show Enki his sacred boundary. A thousand years later, they are still friends.
Zenzee • Close friend
Zenzee met Enki on her mission to connect healers across the world. Zenzee had heard stories of Enki through her followers. Zenzee was amused by Enki's regal persona, but saw through the arrogance and realized that Enki truly loves the land and earth. They bonded over this, and eventually became true friends. Zenzee helped Enki through a period of self discovery, and this solidified their friendship even more.
Sacred • Close friend
Enki has a tendency to follow Seventh when she sees it, and once noticed that another esk was following it, too. Most esk try to get away from it, so the two were intrigued by each other, yet didn't interact. This happened several more times, and finally Enki asked what the esk was doing. Sacred explained that she was trying to calm it. Enki was heartened to hear this, and felt a strange, overwhelming love and respect towards Sacred. Sacred felt the same. They don't seek each other out, but they continue to run into each other while following Seventh. They rarely speak, but they both perceive an intense, spiritual connection to each other.
Nerida • Close friend
Nerida was transformed by Sacred, and has a connection to the marine biome similar to Enki's connection to her freshwater home. Enki admires Nerida for her ability to love and trust others easily, something that's hard for her to do. Nerida doesn't see herself as a divine being, but Enki thinks of her that way. Nerida is probably the only esk Enki has ever been soft and gentle towards upon their first meeting.
Chiyoe • Enki created him
Chiyoe is nothing like Enki, and Enki doesn't really understand him. She didn't stay around for long after his transformation. Occasionally she'll be curious about him though and go visit.
Oasis • friend
Enkira and Oasis first met while fighting a wildfire together. Enkira was weary of the esk for awhile, as she is with everyone. Enkira watched Oasis become Zenzee's mentee though, and saw how dedicated Oasis is to healing her biome. Slowly Enkira began to trust her and now considers her a friend.
Ever • friend
Enkira and Ever met through Zenzee. They share a deep respect for each other and grew closer as friends during the marine biome quest. They help each other when needed.
Aleriya • friend; a little tense
Enki and Aleriya met through Zenzee. At first Aleriya was cold and bitter to her, but as Aleriya warmed up to Zenzee she warmed up to Enki as well. Aleriya and Enki are almost too similar, like repelling magnets. Now they are closer, both have softened over time, but there is still some tension. Aleriya wonders if Enki is jealous of her relationship with Zenzee. This isn't quite true, but deep down Enki does feel a bit of jealousy over watching someone so similar to herself have a healthy, stable relationship.

Enki takes her transformations seriously. She considers them to be a divine gift that flow through her from Seventh. Sometimes, she can feel the energy of an object and know it must be transformed. If she's transforming an animal, human or esk she feels they must prove themselves to her first.
